Whether it be a lack of understanding about the cobot market, online “trolls” who try to antagonize on social media channels with negative comments, or inaccurate information that is shared, there are many myths about welding robots that simply, are not true.

We have heard and seen many; comments questioning the weld quality, or they are only meant for large fabrication shops, and a few more that would likely make you laugh. Here are three examples of myths that are simply not true.

Welding Robots Are Too Expensive: Not True.

Without question, a fabrication will save money and time, that is the focus of almost all shops today. Many shops realize a return on investment and make their initial financial investment back in 6 to 18 months, that is a strong ROI that can not be ignored. A cobot can increase pipe welding productivity by 3-to-5X. The benefit of assigning employees or welders to more value-added tasks can be a result too. Output, quality of work and reducing the amount raw materials wasted are only a few ways your return on investment can be demonstrated and calculated.

They Are Hurting Employment Opportunities: Not True.

One of the more prominent misconceptions in the last few years, the belief that cobots won’t need humans to fill operational roles. A PricewaterhouseCoopers survey of American manufacturers indicated that one in four manufacturers felt that the biggest impact of robotics would be “more demand for talent to manage the robotic workplace”. Welders have an opportunity to learn about and embrace advanced automation technology that requires human input…and this technology is only going to improve and become a bigger part of our work and life along with the employment opportunities.

The Robot Operator Must Be Highly Trained & Skilled: Not True.

Welders obviously require a skill and understanding of their job, however no robotic programming skill is needed. In just a few minutes, a welder can learn and start using a welding robot and enhance their skills with software and the AI behind this technology. Highly skilled welding professionals are hard to find, however a shop’s top welders can now be effectively applied to manual processes where higher skill is required. This helps to alleviate labor pressure and allows shops to hire more available lesser skilled welders who can be assigned to collaborative welding robot tasks producing a perfect quality weld.

Let’s connect and start the conversation around the truth about Spool Welding Robots and help you to become more efficient and profitable.
