Happy International Women’s Day!

To celebrate, we got to sit down with our brilliant Software QA Tester, Roxana Pistol. We learned about her experience in the tech and automation industry, why she decided to be in AI and robotics, and what she loves about the field. Roxana joined Novarc Technologies in 2021 and has been a force on our team since day one. Not only is Roxana bringing her expert knowledge of software, but she also organizes team-building events, and is a joy to work with.

Read below for her answers!

How long have you been in the industry and what is your favorite part of being in tech?

I’ve been in the industry for a little over one year. My favorite part is that there’s always something new to learn and discover. You never get bored, and you’ll definitely be challenged. There is so much innovation in this industry that even when you’ve become an expert in one area, you can look for new research and look at what is coming out of the R&D departments. I get to work with so many smart and interesting people.

What first sparked your interest in working in tech?

All the discussions I had with my husband who works in the industry made me curious. Coming out of my comfort zone felt like an exciting pivot in my career. I come from a different academic background – a philosophy major – and I thought that this was not to my advantage. Still, very soon I found common ground between the two fields: a systematic way of reasoning.

What accomplishment are you the proudest of since entering the automation and tech industry?

I got two different internships right after I finished my QA program and one co-op that transformed into a permanent job here at Novarc Technologies. Now, I get to test welding robots, which is pretty awesome.

Why do you think it’s important for women to join the automation and tech industry?

We have different skill sets that can bring more value to the industry: multi-tasking, organizing, being detail-oriented, commitment, and empathy. It is so important to have opportunities in AI and automation so that we have a wider range of perspectives on the products, and can make them even more effective.

What would you tell yourself when you were just starting your career?

Stop telling yourself you can not do it just because you don’t have a full technical background. Keep asking questions, and stay curious! The sky is the limit, so don’t get in the way of yourself trying new things and succeeding.

We are so lucky to have Roxana on our team as a motivator and role model, all while bringing positive energy to work with her every day. Thank you, Roxana!
